Frequently Asked Questions

Answers before your first visit.

Plain-language answers to the questions patients and families ask most often — from what to expect on day one to how your privacy is protected.

Your First Visit

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first visit typically lasts 60–120 minutes and follows a four-step flow: intake, counseling, doctor evaluation, and prescription. You’ll complete your paperwork at intake, meet with a counselor to discuss your treatment history and goals, see a medical provider for a full evaluation, and — if clinically appropriate — leave with a prescription the same day.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Bring a valid photo ID, your insurance card, and a list of any current medications. If you have prior treatment records you'd like us to review, those are welcome but not required. Our staff will guide you through the intake process.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We offer same-week appointments at most locations. Call 423-498-2000 or submit a callback request and our team will schedule you as soon as possible.

Can I bring a family member or support person?

Yes. You are welcome to bring a family member, friend, or support person to your appointment. They can wait in our lobby or join your session if you and your provider agree it would be helpful.

Are your clinics dog-friendly?

Yes. All four Restoration Recovery locations welcome well-behaved dogs. We believe the comfort of a companion animal can reduce anxiety during treatment visits.

Treatment

What is Suboxone and how does it work?

Suboxone is a prescription medication containing buprenorphine and naloxone. It reduces opioid cravings and withdrawal symptoms without producing the euphoria associated with opioid misuse. It is taken as a dissolving film placed under the tongue, typically once daily.

What is the difference between Suboxone and Sublocade?

Both contain buprenorphine. Suboxone is a daily dissolving film you take at home. Sublocade is a once-monthly injection administered at the clinic, which provides steady medication levels without daily dosing. Your provider will recommend the option best suited to your treatment plan.

How long does MAT treatment last?

Treatment duration varies by individual. Some patients benefit from several months of medication-assisted treatment, while others continue for a year or longer. Your provider will work with you to adjust the plan as your recovery progresses. There is no fixed timeline — the goal is sustained recovery.

Do you offer counseling in addition to medication?

Yes. We provide individual counseling, certified peer support, and group intensive outpatient (IOP) sessions. Counseling is integrated alongside medication management so patients receive comprehensive support.

Do I have to stop using before starting treatment?

You do not need to be in full recovery to schedule your first appointment — call us wherever you are. However, to safely start Suboxone, patients should ideally be in mild to moderate withdrawal or have opioids out of their system. Starting Suboxone too soon after opioid use can cause precipitated withdrawal, which is uncomfortable and avoidable. Your provider will evaluate your readiness and guide the timing so medication can begin safely.

Insurance & Cost

How do I know if my insurance is accepted?

Call our office at 423-498-2000 or submit a contact request and our team will verify your coverage directly with your insurer. We aim to confirm benefits within one business day. You can also visit our insurance page to browse accepted carriers.

Do you accept Medicaid and Medicare?

Yes. We are in-network with Tennessee TennCare (Medicaid), Georgia Medicaid, and traditional Medicare. Coverage details vary by plan, so we recommend calling to confirm your specific benefits.

What if I don't have insurance?

We offer private-pay (self-pay) options for patients without insurance coverage. Please contact us to discuss rates and payment arrangements. Our goal is to make care accessible regardless of insurance status.

Is telehealth covered by insurance?

Most insurance plans cover telehealth visits for behavioral health and substance use treatment. Coverage may depend on your specific plan and the type of service. Our team can confirm telehealth benefits during the verification process.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Will my treatment be confidential from my employer or family?

Yes. Your treatment information is protected under HIPAA and federal substance use confidentiality regulations (42 CFR Part 2). We do not disclose your treatment to employers, family members, or other parties without your written consent.

Will addiction treatment appear on my medical record?

Substance use treatment records receive additional federal protection under 42 CFR Part 2. These records cannot be shared with other healthcare providers, insurers, or employers without your specific written authorization — even within the same health system.

What is 42 CFR Part 2?

42 CFR Part 2 is a federal regulation that provides extra privacy protections specifically for substance use disorder treatment records. It is stricter than standard HIPAA rules and requires your explicit written consent before any information can be disclosed.

Telehealth

How does telehealth work at Restoration Recovery?

Telehealth appointments are conducted through a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. You will need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and internet connection. Your provider will send a link before the appointment. Telehealth is available for follow-up visits, counseling, and medication management.

Can I do my first appointment via telehealth?

Initial evaluations are typically conducted in person so your provider can perform a thorough assessment. After your first visit, most follow-up appointments can be conducted via telehealth if preferred.

What equipment do I need for a telehealth visit?

A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a working camera, microphone, and a stable internet connection. No special software is required — you will receive a link to join your session.
